Side view of the Wetwang chariot (made in England) with a close up view of the "Y" supports.
The "Y" supports are the "light suspension" of the lattice frame allowing it to float freely as the chariot moved along. The "Y" suspension straps are made with a flat braid and have rawhide toggles to adjust the height above the main frame of the chariot.
Notice the wooden part of the wheels are made of a single piece of wood, bent into a circle. The wheel rims are made of a single piece of iron.
